BASIN PIECEMAKER’S QUILT GUILD BUSINESS MEETING   Sept. 22, 2009

Guests:   Anna, Sandi’s, neighbor, who moved back to Moses Lake, after many years.

Minutes:   Reviewed and approved.

Treasurer’s Report:  Checking account $__2,790.76___, Savings__$1,100.53 _.

Correspondence:   Sharon thanked us for her fair award.

Day meeting:   At Grace’s.  Next meeting to be held at Lavita’s.  2nd Tues of the month.

Night Meeting:   A woman new to town came to the meeting after reading about us on the blog.  They had a very nice visit and we will hopefully see her at more of our meetings in the future.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Programs:  Cindy will be doing the Oct. program.

Hospitality:  Emma Lou sent Mary a card for her daughter who is recuperating from an accident.

Brown Bag Group:  Starts tonight.  Meet after the meeting to exchange bags.

Quilts of Valor:  Pat has about 48 blocks.  She will need fabric donations for borders and backing for 4 quilts.  Lynda will check to see if the church is available either Oct. 17th or 24th for a day of quilting the QOV quilts for Make a Difference Day.

Christmas Party:  Thank you Lynda, Sally, and Shawlene for hosting the Christmas Party Dec. 8. More details to follow. Reminder:  No regular business meeting in Nov. or Dec.

Raffle Quilt:  Have lots of blocks.  Need them by retreat, Oct. 6th. Contact Eddy.

Challenge:  Marilyne will bring crayons next meeting for anyone who still needs them.  Directions on the blog.

Blog:  Be sure to check the blog the day of the meeting for pre-meeting meal places and times.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  

Raffle Quilt:  Remember to turn in to Eddy by Oct. 6.

Photo Class Show and Tell:   Awesome.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Retreat:  Penny showed the cake stand and cupcake pincushions that will be the retreat project.  She also had Bingo card patterns/fabric for the fat quarter exchange, and thumb pincushions Wilma will teach. Cindy will teach potato bags.  Contact Penny if needed.

Pincushion:  Barb showed us pincushions she made and handed out patterns.

 

Program:  Elizabeth gave a wonderful program on Civil War era quilts and woman of that time.  Period quilts were displayed.

 

Name tag drawing:  Maureen won the name tag drawing.

Refreshments:   Thank you Brenda, Emma Lou, and Betty.

 

Day Meeting:  2nd Tuesday, various homes

Night Meeting:  2nd Thursday, 7pm Immanuel Lutheran

History Moment:  The first quilt retreat was in March of 1998.  Shawlene, Lynda, Karen, Norma, Cindy, and Cheryl went to Lutherhaven for a 3 day weekend.  Starting in the spring of ’99, it became a twice a year event.  A day a year was added until the present, 5-day retreat was established.  (Compliments of Sally and Lynda)

Penny called with a reminder: payment is due before retreat. You can pay at this Tuesday’s business meeting. The  amount for a full stay is same as last time $215.50. Call Penny if you have any questions.


Quilt Photo Day

At CBQ: Look at the amounts you need, it says on your pattern paper how many squares of each color you’ll need. If its only a very small amount you don’t have to purchase that fabric but can steal a few squares from someone else. Some photos have a lot of dark and some more of the light fabric. You’ll get 896 squares from one ¼ yd of fabric.

 Bring:

  1. your lunch
  2. 2 yds. Steam a seam 2 or any fusible
  3. fabric – palette is available at CBQ
  4. interfacing (fusible or not)
  5. Rotary cutter
  6. Cutting mat
  7. ruler
  8. scotch tape
  9. Small iron (you can share with someone)
  10. extension cord
  11. iron board
  12. paper scissors
  13. muffin tin (papers are optional) or a large tray

 Barb and Virginia will bring your pattern pieces and palette papers.

DOUBLE CHOCOLATE KAHLUA CAKE

1 Chocolat e cake mix

1 (3oz.) instant choclate pudding mix

1 pint sour cream

4 eggs

¾ c. oil

1/3 c. Kahlua coffee liqueur*

1 cup chocolate chips

 

Mix with mixer all ingredients except chocolate chips. Mix about 2 minutes. Add chocolate chips last and mix gently. Put into bundt pan that has been sprayed with Pam. Bake 1 hour at 350º.

 

*Note: Kahlua evaporates while baking the same as vanilla extract.

 

Glaze:           1 c. chocolate chips

                    2 T. Kahlua, optional

                    3 T. butter

Melt in microwave stirring every minute or so until smooth.
