Crazy Camp Supply List Feb 25^th 10-4

Bring a snack or something to share.

*Purchase the Buggy Barn Crazy pattern of your choice and select fabrics according to the requirements on the pattern. You may choose from the patterns in our books, too! Everyone must purchase a pattern or book; it is a violation of federal copyright law to reproduce our patterns by any means.

*Freezer paper

*Paper scissors

*Pencil & 6” x 24” ruler for tracing

*Prior to class, please trace the crazy pattern onto freezer paper, one copy for each stack of fabric. For instance, if you have thirty fat quarters, you can cut them in two piles of fifteen, or three piles of ten so you will need two or three copies depending on how many fabrics you are comfortable cutting through. (I usually cut through twelve to fifteen at a time.) If you are making a pattern that stacks in more than one pile, (i.e. Heart Crazies, Log Cabin Crazies, Star Crazies, Triple Star Crazies, Coneflower Crazies, Crazy Rays) you will also need a copy of the master for each pile to stack on.

*Please have your fabrics ironed and ready to stack and cut.

*60mm Rotary cutter with a sharp blade and mat (18” x 24” size or larger)

*Press pad and iron is optional but there’s lots of ironing!

*6” x 24” ruler and a 15” or 20-1/2” square to use to square your blocks.

*Sewing machine and sewing supplies

BASIN PIECEMAKER’S QUILT GUILD BUSINESS MEETING; OCTOBER 25, 2011

The meeting was called to order by Co-President Sally G.

Guests: Cathie R.

Minutes: The minutes were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Checking Account $3492.98, Savings $1104.63

Day Meeting: It was at Grace. J.’s. Next day meeting will be at Mabel H. The December day meeting will be at LaFaun J.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Sunshine: A card was sent to Emma Lou B. She had a hip replacement. A volunteer is needed for part of a meal being prepared for her on Saturday night.

Christmas Party: Lauren M. and Judy O. reported the party is Dec. 6th at 6 p.m. It’s a potluck dinner and we are to bring 2 wrapped fat quarters for the gift exchange.

Penny O. announced that Maureen Johnson has lung cancer that has spread throughout her body. If anyone is interested in sitting with her, please contact Penny.

Brown Bag: Mabel H. reported they showed their blocks. A new group will start in Juanuary, 2012.

Crazy Ladies: Pass at the Christmas party and in January. Call Barbara B. is you have questions.

Artsy Quilts: Starts tonight.

Quilts of Valor: 13 people attended Make a Difference Day. 8 quilts for Quilts of Valor were made.

OLD BUSINESS:

Retreat: 23 attended and a wonderful time was had by all! 16 Lasagna quilts were made. Sally G. won the quilt block drawing.

NEW BUSINESS:

By-Laws: Virginia C. suggested an addition to the by-laws that those attending retreat, pay in full 30 days in advance and guests be put on a waiting list. Motion was made and we vote in January.

Raffle Quilt: The Soroptomist Bazar is November 12th. Volunteers are needed to sell quilt tickets.

Quilts Supplies: Shawlene M. has Sandi S. quilting supplies at her house and they are for sale with the proceeds going to quilt guild. The sale is Monday, November 14, 6-8 pm. and Tuesday, November 15, 10am. – 2 p.m.

Small Group Block: Lauren M. gave the guidelines for this pass around.

Fons & Porter Magazine: A signup sheet is being passed for those wanting a new or renewal subscription.

Program: Nancy W. gave a very informative program on the guild history.

We had show and tell and the meeting was adjorned.

Name Tag Drawing: Roylene S. won.

Refreshments: Kathy K. and Judy O. are to brings goodies for the January meeting.

Vegetable Bars

2 8-count cans crescent rolls

¾ cup mayonnaise type salad dressing

½ cup sour cream

16 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 envelope ranch salad dressing mix

¾ cup chopped green or red bell pepper

¾ cup chopped broccoli flowerets

¾ cup sliced green onions

¾ cup finely chopped tomato

¾ cups sliced carrots

¾ cups sliced cauliflowerets

¾ cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350*. Press crescent roll dough over bottom and sides of 11 x 17” baking pan; press edges to seal. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes or until light brown. Cool.

Beat salad dressing, sour cream, cream cheese and salad dressing mix in mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Spread over baked layer.

Combine green or red pepper, broccoli, green onions, tomato, carrots, cauliflower and Cheddar cheese in large bowl; toss lightly. Arrange over cream cheese layer. Cover with plastic wrap. Press vegetable gently into cream cheese layer. Chill for 3 to 4 hours.

Cut into bars.

Yield: 36 servings.

The Buggy Barn gals are offering a class for Basin Piecemaker members on Feb 25th – a Saturday! Still details to work out but we will have a signup at the Jan meeting at which time you must also pay so that we have a definite number for them. The cost is $60 each but – last night at the Christmas party- the membership voted to pay half of that fee for members. A minimum of 20 for the class but also a max of 30 and interest has been overwhelming.

You can choose any of the Crazy Quilts patterns to work on that day as I understand. More details soon but remember that Jan 24th is the deadline for signup and payment.

Come with your class pmt & 2012 dues (T=$40) and a sign up sheet will be laid out before the meeting. If you cannot be in attendance, have a friend sign you up and provide payment. This seems to be the most fair for those without Internet access and knowledge of this coming event. If this Feb 25th class is maxed out, we will schedule another.

Pumpkin-orange Cheesecake

Mable served this yummy cheesecake at the November day meeting.

Crust:

1 pkg (9 oz) chocolate wafer cookies

1/2 cup melted unsalted butter.

Filling:

3 Pkgs (8 oz each) cream cheese, at room temperature

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

1 Tbsp. flour

4 large eggs, at room temperature

1 cup canned pumpkins

1/4 cup each heavy cream, sour cream, and maple syrup

Zest of 2 medium oranges

2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

Topping:

6 Tbsp. store-bought caramel topping

1/8 tsp. table salt

1/2 cup coarsely chopped toasted pecans

Flaked salt*(such as Cyprus sea salt flakes or Maldon salt), for garnish

Make crust: Preheat oven to 350. Whirl cookies in a food processor until finely ground. Whirl in butter just until imcorporated. Pour crumbs into a 9-in. springform pan and press over bottom and about 1 in. up inside of pan. Bake 7 minutes, then let cool on a rack. Reduce oven heat to 300.

Make Filling: In a large bowl, with a mixer on medium speed, beat cream cheese, sugars, and flour until smooth. Beat in eggs on low speed 1 at a time. Add remining filling ingredients and beat until just blended. Wrap bottom of pan with foil, pressing it up the outside.

Set springform pan in a roasting pan and pour filling into crust. Pour enough boiling water into roasting pan to come about half way up side of springform pan. Bake until cheesecake barely jiggles in the center when gently shaken, about 1 1/4 hours. Let cheescake cool on a rack 1 hour, then chill until cold, at least 5 hours.

Whisk caramel topping and table salt in a bowl and spoon over cheesecake. Arrange pecans around rim and sprinkle flaked salt over pecans.

Hint:Far a fissure-free cheesecake, beat your filling just until it’s blended–no more. (Too much air in the mixture will make it deflate, and then crack, in the oven.)

Reminder! Basin Piecemakers Christmas Party is Tuesday December 6th at 6:00 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Please bring your favorite main dish, dessert or salad to share. Bring two fat quarters, wrapped, for the gift exchange.
This is a fun occasion and we hope everyone can join us for the evening!

BASIN PIECEMAKER’S QUILT GUILD BUSINESS MEETING Sept. 27, 2011

Guests: All members introduced themselves and told what their favorite quilt block is.

Minutes: Read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Checking account $ 3,593.13, Savings $1,104.54.

Correspondence: Many thank you cards were read.

Day meeting: At Nancy’s. 8 members present. We had a good time visiting and sewing. Next meeting to be held at Grace’s. 2^nd Tues. of the month.

Night Meeting: Leslie asked if people want to continue the night meeting because of low participation. Think about it and we will decide the first of the year to continue or not.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Hospitality: Cards were sent to Mary T. and Sandi’s family.

Brown Bag: As of tonight, you should be receiving the last bag. Emma Lou will be contacting you about the exchange.

Little Brown Bag: Keep passing and please see Virginia to go over the list after the meeting.

QOV: sign-up sheet for Make a Difference Day was passed around. It will be Oct. 22 from 9-4. Bring a lunch and sewing equip. We have over 100 blocks to put together! Also, Gloria received a thank you letter from the medical center in LA for one of the quilts we sent.

2013 Quilt Show: We need someone to be chairman. There is much planning involved, so having someone at least a year before the show is beneficial.

Blog: Be sure to check the blog for pre-meeting meal places and refreshments. Pre-meeting meals are at 5:30.

OLD BUSINESS:

Sandi Stone is in Deaconess under hospice care. Please cover her and her family with your prayers for strength and peace.

Also Mary Talcott fell and broke her ankle.
