September 24, 2013 Guild Meeting Minutes

BASIN PIECEMAKER’S QUILT GUILD BUSINESS MEETING

SEPTEMBER 24, 2013

Co-president Delores A. opened the meeting asking us to introduce ourselves and tell how many sewing machines we owned.  Guests were Sue M. and Bonnie.

MINUTES: were read and approved from the July 23rd meeting.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Checking account; $4,543.88, Savings; $1,105.76

CORRESPONDENCE:  Thank you cards from Betty L,Kim LaFontaine, Kim G. and Melanie S. for cash awards from the fair.  Ocean Shores “Whale of a Quilt Show” September 27-29, 2013 at the Convention Center, Friday-Saturday 10-5, Sunday 10-3, Washington State Quilters Quilt show “A Cottage in the Country”, October 18-20, 2013 at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center 404 N. Havana, Spokane Valley, WA, Friday & Saturday 10-6, Sunday 10-4.  Save the date of Oct 30-Nov 2 for the Piper Barn Craft Show, 1508 Road “S” NE, Moses Lake.

DAY MEETING:  Was held in the home of Kathi C. with 14 ladies present.  All had a good time.  The next meeting will be held at the home of Thomasene L.

COMMITTEE REPORTSHospitality: Card was sent to Sally G. Brown Bag:  Emma Lou B. announced that tonight was the last night to sign up.  Artsy:  Roylene S. reported that tonight was the last opportunity to join this group.  She explained that the project was an art journal that can be decorated used any type of method, be it paper, fabric, paint, etc.  It is supposed to be the size of a folded greeting card.  QOV:  Kathy C., Nancy L, and Gloria M. reported that blocks will be done in the spring and turned in during the summer.  Lauren’s Block Exchange: Betsy B.  passed her blocks out to participants, next exchange will be Thomasene LColor Challenge:  The challenges were hung up with voting numbers attached.  Voting occured between old business and new business. The winners were #1 – Mary Ann B. #2 – Lynda W. #3 – Roylene S.

2014 QUILT SHOW: Mary Ann B. reported that the show is June 27th and 28th at the Moses Lake High School, volunteers for publicity and floor stagers are still needed.

OLD BUSINESSRetreat: Mary K. is collecting money tonight for the balance owing for retreat. Quilt Raffle: Edna C. volunteered to be in charge of the tickets for the quilt raffle.  Fair: Roylene S. reported everything went real well, more entries than anticipated, fixable computer problems, big thanks to the volunteers. August picinic:  Thanks to Candi T. for hosting.  It was a beautiful night, good food, good times for visiting.

NEW BUSINESS: Christmas Party: It will be a potluck on December 10th at 6pm.  The officers will be in charge. Instead of a fat quarter, bring a pincushion – preferably homemade (wrapped) for the Chinese gift exchange. Make a difference day: This is the 4th Saturday of October.  After some discussion a motion was passed that we can make any kind of block including a QOV block on our own, then turn them in and during the spring a day can be decided upon to gather and put the blocks together.  Be thinking of other local groups that may be in need of quiltsRicki Timms seminar:  Several members reported that it was an awesome seminar all around.  Great ideas, instructors, and entertainment.   Name tag drawing:  Won by Kathy M.

Program: Roylene S. gave an informative program on tried and true binding techniques.  Refreshments: Were served by Betsy B. and Sally G.  Show and Tell:  Beautiful quilts were shared by our talented members.

Next meeting is October 22nd.  Refreshments will be Barbara Stanford & ?   Thomasene & Betty Lybbert will have Sept. 2014
