Basin Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild

Introduction of Guests and Members:    At 7:05 pm Co-president Mary K.  opened meeting and welcomed members and guests.

Question of the Evening:   Which season do you prefer, Spring or Fall?

Minutes:  Minutes of the February 28 meeting were approved as submitted.

Correspondence:  None

Treasurer’s Report:   Barb S. presented the following information:

Checking:   $7,229.73

Savings:      $1,107.73

Annual dues of $15 are due as of January 1, 2017.    Barb asked that anyone wanting to pay their dues should mail their checks (payable to Basin Piecemakers) to Barb at:

Day Meeting – The day meeting for February was held at the home of Thomasene L.  The April 11 meeting will be held at the home of Melanie S.

Artsy:  Sixth pass-around for Barb B.’s project and Mary Ann B.’s  project is collected.

Brown Bag:  Dona S. reported that members should keep passing the brown bag.  Dona gave the group an update on Katrina B.

Hospitality:  No report.

Challenge:  Kay U. reported that Katrina B. will not be able to continue as one of the chairmen for the Challenge Quilt.  Thomasene L. has serve in Katrina’s place.    The quilts must be 36” minimum and 60” maximum and include curved piecing.  They are not to include any applique.  The quilts will be displayed and voted on at the June, 2017 meeting

Quilt Raffle:  

Lois W. has agreed to be the Ticket Coordinator for Raffle Quilt Project.  The group agreed upon the name for the Raffle Quilt of Starfire.  The Raffle Quilt drawing will be held at the August picnic.

Old Business:

Quilt Show Sign-up for June, 2018:

Mary Ann passed around a sign-up sheet for Committees and Tasks associated with the Quilt Show in June, 2018.  Kathy R. agreed to be the Quilt Show Coordinator.  She announced that she would like everyone to consider a theme for the Show—her suggestion was Quilt Therapy.

Most of the positions on the sign-up sheet were filled.

Donation Quilt for Veterans Association:

Donation quilts for the VA Hospital in Seattle will be collected by Dona S.   Two quilts were donated at tonight’s meeting.  Dona will get them delivered to the VA Hospital in Seattle.  She also reported that she had more fabric and blocks if anyone wants to take some of those to create a quilt for the VA.

Spring Retreat:

Virginia C. reported that to date 21 people have signed up for the retreat.  Virginia C. advised that attendees may want to bring an iron as there were issues with the irons provided at the last retreat.

Day Meeting Hosts:

Day meeting hosts are needed for August and October.  Kathy K. volunteered to host the September meeting.

New Business:


Emmalou reported that Linda from the Project Linus will be at the Episcopal Church at 10:00 am  on Saturday to pick up any quilts for donation.

Odessa Quilt Show:

The Odessa Spring Fling Quilt Show will be held on April 28 and 29, 2017 from 9 am to 5 pm at the Odessa High School Gym.  Entry forms are available for anyone who wishes to enter a quilt in the show.  Dona S. and Roylene S. volunteered to deliver quilts to Odessa for anyone  from Basin Piecemakers who wants to enter their quilts.  Laurel W. volunteered to pick up these quilts at the end of the show and return them to Moses Lake.  The featured quilter for the Odessa Quilt Show will be Judy Main.

Program for July:

A program is needed for the July meeting.

Upcoming Classes:

Sally G. and Merridy M. presented the plan for a class to be held on May 6 at the Presbyterian Church.  This class will feature the choice of two patterns (1) Tulip Fields and (2) Tussy Mussy Mums which include ruching and applique.   The class will be taught by Laura Estes, Laura’s Sage Country Quilts.  The cost will be $30 and will include the pattern and plastic templates.  Class size is limited to 20 attendees and a packet of necessary supplies will be given to those who register for the class.  A sign-up sheet was passed.    A potluck lunch is planned.

Merridy also mentioned a possible table runner summer class to be taught by Juli Weishaar, Milk Bottle Quilt Company, if there is an interest.  This class will be held in July on a date yet to be determined.    This class will cost $45 for pattern, quilt top, backing, and rulers needed.  Class size is limited to 15 people.  Merridy will provide more information at next month’s meeting.


Betty White presented an interesting program featuring Kansas Troubles fabric designed by Lynne Hagmaier.  Betty grew up in Kansas and she showed several quilts and other projects she had made from this fabric.   Some of these fabrics are available at Fabric Patch in Ephrata and also at the Country Quilts shop in Moses Lake.  A website for these fabrics is

Show and Tell:  – Several people showed new quilts and projects.

Co-President Mary K. adjourned the meeting at 8:20 pm.
