January 23, 2024 Meeting Minutes

February 21, 2024

The meeting was called to order by President Deana Z. at 7:04pm.  The minutes were read and accepted.  Each member introduced themselves and shared their favorite thing about winter.

CORRESPONDENCE:  No correspondence was received.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  • DAY MEETING:  The January day meeting was cancelled due to the weather.  The February Day meeting will be held at the home of Dona S.  The meeting will be 2/13/24 from 10am to 2pm.  Bring a lunch & beverage.
  • HOSPITALITY:  Norma Pittman passed away on 1/22/24.  The service will be at ML Presbyterian on 2/3/24.  Mabel Hawkes’ granddaughter, Darlene Hannon, also passed away.  If a guild member needs a card, please let Judy O. know and she will send a card on behalf of the guild.    
  • BROWN BAG:  The brown bag is ready to start.    Dona met with all participants after the meeting to start the passing.      
  • CRAZY LADIES:  This activity is on a break. 
  • CHALLENGE:  There is a new challenge for 2023-24 – Easy LeMoyne Star.  Information was provided at the meeting.  Questions can be directed to Barbara B.  Challenge entries are due at the May 2024 meeting.
  • PROGRAM COORDINATOR:  Joan Schuler
  • VETERAN QUILTS:  12 Vet quilts were given to ML Hospice before Veteran’s Day.  Hospice was very receptive and appreciative.  Please continue to make blocks and/or quilts for Vets and bring them to the meetings.  The sew-in on Veteran’s Day was fun. 
  • RETREAT: Mary K., Carol G., Nancy L., and Karen C. will be coordinating the spring retreat.  The spring retreat is scheduled for April 16-21, 2024 at Lutherhaven. Sign-ups will start in February and a $50 deposit is needed to hold your space.   

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Hospice in Spokane will also take donated quilts.  Connect with Karen C. for more information. 
  • The Fabric Patch is still shipping quilts to Hawaii.  Dona S. has 6 ready to go. 
  • Odessa Quilter’s Tea is February 9, 2024.  The Old Town Hall has been reserved for two days of sewing. 

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Raffle Quilt Committee: Raffle tickets were sold at a holiday event in Ritzville.  Another option for selling tickets would be good.  Call Kathy R. if you have any ideas for selling tickets.  If you need more tickets to sell, see Regan B. 
  • December Meeting:  The December meeting was held on December 12, 2023, at 11:30am at Denny’s.  Everyone had a great time and appreciated the fellowship.  The gift bags with Santa ornaments were a big hit.  Thank you to those that coordinated this event.        

NEW BUSINESS:

  • 2024 Raffle Quilt:  The committee is in the process of selecting the pattern and fabric.  Kits should be ready for distribution at the February meeting.    

PROGRAM:  Mary Kunkle gave a program on half-square triangles.  The program was informative and fun.    

NAME TAG DRAWING:  Regan B. was the January winner. 

SHOW AND TELL:  Members shared many beautiful creations. 

MEETING ADJOURNED:  The meeting was adjourned by President Deana and members enjoyed delicious treats provided by Cherie C. and Carol G.

Basin Piecemakers Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes – Sept. 26, 2023

The meeting was called to order by President Deana Z. at 7:02pm.  The minutes were read and accepted.  Each member introduced themselves.

CORRESPONDENCE:  Correspondence was received from Karen Counsell, Mary Kunkle, Sally Schwab, Donna Dorais, and Alicia Fields.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  • DAY MEETING:  The day meeting was held at the home of Barbara B. There were 6-7 in attendance.  The day meeting is always at 10:00am, the second Tuesday of the month.  Bring lunch and handwork.  Hostess provides dessert.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  There is no day meeting in October due to the Fall Retreat.  The next day meeting will be November 14, 2023, at 10:00am.  The location is yet to be determined.    
  • HOSPITALITY:  If a guild member needs a card, please let Judy O. know and she will send a card on behalf of the guild.    
  • BROWN BAG:  Dona S. passed around a sign-up sheet for members to indicate their interest in participating.  About 12 people are needed to participate for passing purposes.   
  • CRAZY LADIES:  This activity is on a break. 
  • CHALLENGE:  No Report
  • PROGRAM COORDINATOR:  Joan Schuler is looking for members to sign up for programs for 2024.  A sign-up list was passed around. 
  • VETERAN QUILTS:  Nancy Latham reminded members that block kits were available to sew along with completed blocks that could be turned into quilts.  Nancy L., Karen M., and Dona S. attended the Stand Down event on September 26, 2023.  Three quilts were given away to veterans from Moses Lake.    
  • BLOCK OF THE MONTH:  Each month a quilt block pattern is provided to the guild members and a sample block in the selected color way is displayed.  Interested members can make the block and bring it to the following month’s meeting.  The names of all members that made blocks go into a drawing to win all the blocks. 
  • RETREAT: The fall retreat is scheduled for October 10-15 and the cost $385 for the full event.  Any outstanding balances must be paid tonight.  There are a few changes to the retreat this year.  The dinner in town and the gift exchange have been eliminated.  Bring 12 Fat Quarters with you for an activity.  The retreat is held in Coeur d’Alene, ID at Lutherhaven Retreat Center. 
  • MODERN QUILT GUILD:  The Modern Quilt Guild meeting was held on third Thursday of September at the home of Barbara B.  While the Modern Quilt Guild is a separate quilt guild, all members from Basin Piecemakers are welcome to attend.  The October Modern Quilt Guild meeting will be held on October 19, 2023 at the home of Regan B. 

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Committee Leadership Group Formation:    Still looking for volunteers for a small group that will come together to work on different activities for the guild.   The purpose would be to share the workload across several members rather than having one or two people doing the work.  If you are interested in this idea, please let Deana Z. know.
  • Raffle Quilt Committee: Kathy R. provided an update on the raffle quilt.  Tickets were sold at the Century 21 pop-up event.  Tickets are available and were handed out at the meeting.  Each member needs to sell 20 tickets.  BPQG will have a table at the upcoming PEO Holiday Bazaar.   Members will be needed to work at the event to sell tickets.  Special thanks to Regan B. for printing and cutting up the tickets, making signs, and stuffing and labeling the ticket envelopes.    
  • December Meeting:  The December meeting will be held on December 12, 2023, at 11:30am.  This will be a luncheon/social event rather than a business meeting.  More details will be forthcoming.    

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Barn Chicks Sew-In Event: Roylene S. and Kim G. told the group about a previous Barn Chicks Sew-in event from 2003.  Twelve members got together on a Saturday and each sewed 12 of the same blocks from a Buggy Barn quilt pattern.  At the end of the day, blocks were swapped so that each participant had one of their blocks and 11 blocks sewed by the other members.  If there is interest, another Barn Chicks sew day will be scheduled for spring 2024.  A sign-up sheet will be available at the October meeting. 

PROGRAM:  Nancy Walters gave a program on making quick and easy pillows.  She shared several examples of pillows she made from T-shirts and other clothing items.

SHOW AND TELL:  Members shared many beautiful creations.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  • DAY MEETING: The day meeting was held at Roylene’s home with 7 quilters attending. They enjoyed a wonderful ice cream dessert and great conversation. The next meeting is July 11 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the home of Joan S. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please remember to bring a sack lunch.
  • HOSPITALITY: Judy O. reminds members to let her know if anyone is in need of a card.

  • VETERAN QUILTS: Nancy Latham shared that the State Grange Convention recently presented quilts to veterans.
    She also shared that Basin Piecemakers will have a table at the Veterans Stand Down in September at the Grant
    County Fairgrounds. We will give away 2-3 quilts at this event.
  • BLOCK OF THE MONTH: Deana Zay was not able to attend the May meeting and the drawing will be held next
    month.
  • RETREAT: Shawlene Martin shared that the $50 deposit for Fall retreat will be collected at the July meeting.
    Nancy Latham and Carol Getz will also serve on this committee.
    OLD BUSINESS:
  • 2023-24 Officer Elections – President Karen M. reviewed the proposed slate of officers from the May 2023 meeting: Co-Presidents, Deana Z. & Kathy R., Secretary, Kim G., and Treasurer, Regan B. President Karen asked if there were any other nominations from the floor. In the absence of any new nominations, voting commenced and the 2023-24 slate of officers was unanimously accepted. New officers will start in July 2023.
    NEW BUSINESS:
  • 2023 Fair Sign-ups – Carol Getz and Roylene Scoggins are the Quilting Superintendents. Volunteers are needed to help clean, take in quilts, help with judging, hang quilts, and take down quilts at the end of the fair. A sign-up sheet was passed around. Please contact either Carol or Roylene if you would like to help. Many hands are needed to pull off this event.
  • Shawlene M. provided updated information regarding the fiber arts program at CB Tech. The program would benefit from 5” blocks are requested if anyone is interested in donating.
    PROGRAM: The program for June was Grandmother’s Quilts. Members brought vintage quilts to share with group. All of the quilts were beautiful and the stories were very delightful. This program proved that every quilt has a story to tell. Thank you for sharing!

The meeting was called to order by President Karen M. The minutes were read and accepted. We introduced ourselves.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
DAY MEETING: Day meetings are held the 2nd Tues of the month. Bring your lunch. May meeting was at Deana Z’s. The 8 participants enjoyed a delicious chocolate dessert. HOSPITALITY/SUNSHINE: Judy sent a card to Karen C who is doing well and thanks everyone for their well wishes.
CHALLENGE: ”Who’s in the Zoo” The challenge was presented as the program tonight. VETERAN’S QUILTS: Pick up kits from Nancy at meetings. Nancy will be looking for other Veterans around town so let her know if you know of any. Merridy can always use quilts and she will ask if other colors than red/white/blue would be acceptable. Karen H mentioned Grant Co. Vet organizations may know of any vet in need of a quilt. She will check into it. Monroe House presentation was held May 30 at 12:00.
RETREAT: Shawlene M and Karen C. Fall retreat-Oct. 10, 2023. Thank you to Nancy L who volunteered to help the committee.
ODESSA QUILT TILL YOU WILT: July 10th at Odessa Community Center..come for the whole day or stay as long as you like.
OLD BUSINESS
BLOCK LOTTO: Deana Z. There will be a drawing in June so get you blocks in! Monthly patterns will be on the blog. We will keep the same color palette for the year and draw once we have collected enough for a quilt top. This year’s colors are cream/beige/tan/brown.
ROBIN RUTH DESIGNS: Participants shared their blocks. Fun class!

Basin Peacemakers Quilt Guild

April 25, 2023 

The meeting was called to order by President Karen M.  The minutes were read and accepted. We introduced ourselves.

CORRESPONDENCE: Kathy K read a thank you card from a Pioneer Village Vet thanking us for the Veteran’s quilt she received.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

DAY MEETING: Day meetings are held the 2nd Tues of the month. Bring your lunch. Dona S made a delish lemon pie. May meeting at Deana Z’s.

HOSPITALITY/SUNSHINE: Karen thanked all those members who are busy with ill spouses/family, for continuing to support and participate with the guild during difficult times.

BROWN BAG: finished.

CRAZY LADIES: finished.

CHALLENGE: ”Who’s in the Zoo”  Due in May 2023. Bring your item in a brown paper bag or bags will be provided at the door.

VETERAN’S QUILTS: Pick up kits from Nancy at meetings. The presentation at Pioneer Village was lovely with keyboard, violin, and singing. Quilts were given to 12 Vets who live there and 10 others. Thank you Dona S for organizing this event. Nancy L shared that the presentation at Monroe House will be May 30. It is a very moving ceremony and all are welcome to attend. Nancy will be looking for other Veterans  around town so let her know if you know of any.

RETREAT: Shawlene M and Karen C. Participants at the spring retreat had a great time. “Small but mighty” group of 7 enjoyed the fellowship. October 10, 2023 will be the fall retreat. Same price as spring. Please contact Shawlene or Karen if you can help with the retreat.

Melanie, a long time member, will be missed as she is moving to “the other side”. Best Wishes.

OLD BUSINESS

BLOCK LOTTO: Deana Z. Monthly patterns will be on the blog. We will keep the same color palette for the year and draw once we have collected enough for a quilt top. This year’s colors are cream/beige/tan/brown. We are working on the blog website and are learning how to us it. Your patience is appreciated.
